7 WAYS TO LEAD WITH LOVE

7 WAYS TO LEAD WITH LOVE

by | Feb 3, 2016 | Lifestyle

“Leadership” is a popular word these days. Personally, I see it all over the place. There are thousands of tips out there on how to be a “good leader”. But what is a good leader, anyway? It’s important to find a leadership style that is right for you.

I have spent a lot of time in the last few years reading up on this topic. It’s a skill that everyone from any walk of life can use for their benefit and the benefit of others. That said, leadership unfortunately doesn’t come naturally for most of us. It’s a learned skill.

Here are my 5 tips based on my own experiences and the things I’ve learned along the way in my own leadership journey.

  1. Look at all the stuff that lives under the surface and deal with it!  Be clear on your strengths and your weaknesses. Come to the table with transparency. Leaders who hide are found out.
  2. Share who you are  You cannot lead others and ask them to be vulnerable if you are not willing to share who you are. Do not share with everyone; certainly be discerning. But be open. Leadership starts with leading you
  3. Be clear about your values, your mission, your vision.  It’s easy to waver. For me, I didn’t have a big picture in my head so I thought I couldn’t have clarity. What I have now are my values, mission, and vision FOR NOW. They evolve and change. And that’s ok. Start somewhere. Clearly.
  4. Set goals. Consider what you want and then go after it. Be open to these goals changing and shifting as your business evolves and your vision changes.
  5. Work on you.  Invest in yourself. Be committed to learning and growing. The more you invest in yourself, the more return you will get. Share what you learn; pass it on to those around you.
  6. Talk less and listen more. Listening is a skill that takes time to learn; practice it often. Good leaders listen intently and establish strong connections with their tribe.
  7. Share the glory.  Win as a team; lose as a team. Help others to be their best. Share the glory. Motivate the troops. Don’t hog the limelight. Let the team shine.
