Confession — this blog has been torturing me for the past five days. I must have written and rewritten it eight times in my head. This morning I told my friend about it — she laughed when she heard the title. She knows me well.

Playing small is something I struggle with a lot. I think about the parts of my life where I’m playing small (and why) on almost a daily basis. I don’t have all the answer by any means, but here are some things I know for sure:

Playing big means different things to different people. For some, it means stepping into a work opportunity, doing something different in your personal life, or letting go of a relationship. For others it’s as simple as choosing to say no.

I think to play big is to do something outside of your comfort zone. Something that feeds into those feelings deep inside, at your core. For me it was listening to voice inside my head questioning, is this it?

My first step towards living big was admitting to all the crap I was hiding and embracing vulnerability. It may sound simple but it was one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever faced. I started to be present, share my feelings, show up for myself, and allow myself to play big.

I was honoured to have my personal journey featured in the first blog on vancouverites.ca, but the day it went live I had to put my head between my knees. Talk about putting my money where my mouth was, but guess what – it felt amazing once I had done it and not only was it a huge step for me it had impact on those around me, people started sharing with me like never before. It was a lesson on playing big, it impacts not only me but those around me.

Are you tired of playing small? It’s time to do something about it!

If you feel like you’re living in the movie Ground Hog Day, break the cycle. Do something different and don’t let the fear stop you. Are you risking failure? Yes! But that’s part of life. If you never try, who are you letting down? You. Don’t settle.

What if you rocked the boat and stepped out of your comfort zone? What if you said screw it to your fears and did it anyway? Amazing things could happen. It’s time to get on with your amazing, messy, crazy life. It’s time to show up for you.

Today I challenge you to play big. What are you going to do to show up for yourself? Tell me about it in the comments below.
