I am working on a goal-setting program, and I have spent a lot of time with just starting. How do you set goals if you have no idea what you want, especially if you don’t allow yourself to want for more than you currently have?
This is a challenge for me. My idea of torture used to be when someone asked me about my 5-year plan. I would feel sick to my stomach. The line I would use was “I have so much now, how can I want for more?” The reality was that I would not let myself want for more. I didn’t believe that I was worth it. In a totally unconscious way, I was punishing myself, I couldn’t have what I wanted most (to have a baby) and that started the years of punishment.
I know I am not the only one
While doing the goal setting this week with a group, there was a woman who instantly got the OMG-I-don’t-allow-myself-to-want look. I knew that look well.
I gave her a magic wand (my favourite pen) and told her she didn’t have to worry about how or why – she could have anything she wanted. Finally, I got an answer. The look on her face was amazing!
We are allowed to want; we are allowed to dream about different, about having things, being in good relationships, and so much more.
It’s time to dream about what you want
When was the last time you sat and daydreamed? If you haven’t done it in a while, please make some time for it. Even better, get a pen out and write things down. This is just for you, and you don’t have to show anyone. If you need permission, I give it to you. Want, baby, want!!
It’s the first step in setting yourself up for the life you want and deserve, if need to see it to believe it and to make it happen.
