It’s a new year and everyone is talking about goal setting and intentions for the year to come.
This is common every year; people look back and make plans for the upcoming year.
I am one of those as well, this year I put my money where my mouth is and I did make a list of my successes for 2014. This is not a new practice for me; I have done it on and off in the past.
This year I did it differently. I don’t just make a list of the things I have accomplished in my business. I spent a lot of time looking at the little things as well as the big ones and this year there were a lot of personal successes, something that I did not include in the past, mainly because I only focused on the business, my personal side rarely came into play.
2014 was a year I will not forget anytime soon, it was a year of change for me. I am a different person that I was when it began and it is evident personally and in business.
I realized that since I have changed so much I needed to sit down with my business partner Mike, it was time that we got ready for 2015 and review our mission and our vision for the company. I wanted to make sure that what we did months ago was still in line with what I wanted and what we wanted.
We did it last Tuesday, started early and got down to work. I will admit I was a bit cranky when we started (Mike knows me well enough, I am like this when I am scared) I was worried that we wouldn’t still be on the same page. Have I changed so much we don’t relate? What if what I want is totally different than what he wants. What if…..
Once we started I realized that yes, we were still on the same page and a lot of what we did in the spring still holds true but we need to change some of the language so it fit better with where we were now.
Then we got down to business, we took it a step further and redefined our target market and our key referral partners to make sure they are aliened with what we want. (If you want to know more about this contact us).
One of the biggest lessons I have learned this year is that no decision is forever. I know this is very simple but sometimes the simplest things take a long time to sink in.
Life is fluid, always changing, business too is fluid, always changing so it is great to go back and look to make sure your foundations are still supporting you now and if they are not, you can change them.
Making a plan is key, it’s like a recipe, as you are following it you may need to change ingredients or modify measurement, it is just a guide and you make it work for you.
What is your recipe for this year?
