Are you being accountable?

Are you being accountable?

We are a month into 2018; how’s it going?
Are you sticking to what you said you would do?

Sometimes it is hard to hold ourselves accountable. We have the best-laid plans, yet it’s easier said than done. We have great intentions, yet we don’t.

Let’s be honest, as a business owner, it’s easy not to do things. There is no one behind your shoulder asking where are you with stuff. On the other hand, working towards your goals has to make you uncomfortable because if they were easy, you wouldn’t have picked them.

I believe there are three main reasons why we don’t do something:

  • We are scared. (Legit)
  • We don’t’ know how to do it. (Legit)
  • We don’t give a shit. (Get another freakin’ goal, this one is BS.)

Life gets in the way, and unless you stay on top of things, your goal will get lost in the in the day-to-day. Success doesn’t happen by accident; success happens by plan.

I believe the key to making a goal and actually reaching it is in understanding why is it important, why do you want to do it. In my case, I want to coach x amount of clients this year. Why? Sure the money is good, but the main reason is I want to inspire that amount of people. I want to kick business owners in the ass and get them to do shit.

Here are three easy ways to making yourself accountable and staying on track.

  1. Track your progress. Make notes of what you are doing to achieve what you want. It could be a tick next to a list or at the end of the day makes sure you write it down.
  2. Have an accountability buddy. It cannot be your bestie, too much pressure in the relationship. It could be a colleague, a friend who is also working on things or a business coach. Find someone who won’t let you off easy. Reality is when you have to report to someone you are more likely to do it.
  3. Have a clear picture of why you want to do it. If you don’t have a reason behind it, if you don’t believe in it, you won’t do it. You need to believe in what you’re doing. Why? Why? Why?

These may sound really simple and guess what, it can be. You don’t have to make it complicated, just believe in it, do these few things, and you will make it happen.
